New Jersey Motorsports Park, July 13-15 2018
Summer in New Jersey means heading to the shore for the weekend. Unless of course the 6th Annual AHRMA Vintage Festival is going on, in that case you head to the track for some action-packed racing!
New Jersey Motorsports Park is located in Millville, NJ about an hour and a half southwest of the Jersey Shore. Don’t worry; spray-tan is banned on the track as it is considered a hazard. This is where a streamlined DCC Crew could be found for Rounds 13 & 14 of the AHRMA race season. The 2.25 mile racetrack with 12 turns and a 1/2 mile straightaway bears the historical namesake of Thunderbolt Raceway in memory and honor of the pilots that received advanced P-47 Thunderbolt fighter training here in the early 1940’s.
The brutal summer temps in New Jersey can be a real challenge when racing, usually leaving the DCC Crew dehydrated, exhausted and on the verge of heat stroke. This year was a delightful exception to the norm. Temperatures hovering in the mid 80’s during the day and low 70’s at night provided ideal racing conditions. So let’s get to the results, which are a shortened version for this outing. Herm, Scott and Herb were the only DCC Crew locked, stocked and loaded for this road trip to Jersey!
Saturday Results:
Race #2: CB160 –
It was a highly competitive field but Scott found his way to a 4th place finish.
Race #5: Novice Historic Production Heavyweight –
Herm finishes 2nd on his Lightweight bike, and Herb right on his six captured a close 3rd on his R75.
Race #7: Novice Historic Production Lightweight –
The battle for the championship continues as Herm squeaks by number 69m to grab the checkers for 1st!
Race #11: Sportsman 500 –
Scott finishes 1st by a commanding 24 seconds! Someone ate their Wheaties…
Race #12: Sportsman 350 –
Scott finds himself in a heated and highly entertaining battle for first with Eric Cook during these exciting 8 laps. Ultimately number 62 gets him at the line, and Scott finishes a hard fought 2n
Sunday Results:
Race #2: CB160 –
The featherweight 160 class was fired up. Another exciting and challenging race finds Scott finishing 5th
Race #5: Novice Historic Production Heavyweight –
Redemption for Herm as he secures a 1st place finish and again Herb flogging that Beemer right on his heels sewing up 2nd.
Race #7: Novice Historic Production Lightweight –
This race starts with rain and a soggy track and ultimately ends with a red flag as several riders go down. Herm was in 2nd on the lap preceding the red flag and as rules have it, that’s where he was to stay. 2nd place would have to suffice.
Race #11: Sportsman 500 –
Another amazingly fast race for Mr. Turner as he secures 1st place again!
Race #12: Sportsman 350 –
The bar was raised by a talented field of competitors for this back to back race and finds our champ Scotty in 5th.
While the lazy dog days of summer drift by, the DCC Crew will be gearing up for rounds 15 & 16 of the AHRMA race season in beautiful Tooele Utah on the western slope of the Oquirrh mountains. So put your toes in the sand, sip some cool lemonade and stay tuned for more great action packed racing!
