In the congratulatory call, Trump never mentioned the recent nerve agent attack in the UK, which the Brits believe was perpetrated by Russia, and he also made the call against the wishes of his advisors. News leaked this week that in written briefing materials, POTUS was specifically told in all caps, “DO NOT CONGRATULATE,” referring to Putin. The U.S. President, however, isn’t known to be much of a reader. Trump is reportedly furious about the leak, as is Chief of Staff John Kelly. On Wednesday, Trump tweeted: “I called President Putin of Russia to congratulate him on his election victory (in past, Obama called him also). The Fake News Media is crazed because they wanted me to excoriate him. They are wrong! Getting along with Russia (and others) is a good thing, not a bad thing.” Getting along with other countries is certainly a good thing, but Social wishes Trump had held off phoning the Kremlin or at least pressed Putin about his behavior. Over the past two days, “Trump Putin call” has a 24 percent positive score. –Alex Shultz
