Red Sparrow, which dropped in the U.S. on Mar. 2, is about a Russian, Dominika Egorova (played by Lawrence), who is forced to join a secret intelligence unit. She’s enlisted to extract information from American spy Nate Nash (played by Joel Edgerton), and a lot of good old-fashioned Russian-American double-crossing ensues. Last weekend, Red Sparrow came in fourth at the box office, bringing in $8.5 million domestically. That’s nearly a 50 percent drop from its opening weekend gross, but strong international numbers have already helped it eclipse $85 million overall, which exceeds the film’s $69 million budget. Vulture’s David Edelstein wasn’t a fan. He wrote, “Figuring out whether someone is a double, triple, or quadruple agent isn’t a brain-teaser, it’s a brain-irritant, especially when the script is so convoluted.” Edelstein wasn’t the only one to share that view: Red Sparrow has a 48 percent Rotten Tomatoes fresh score among critics and a 57 percent audience score. The latter is basically identical to Social’s opinion since over the past five days, “Red Sparrow” has 58 percent positives. –Alex Shultz
