Men, Pressure, and Toxic Masculinity: Call for Submissions

On the Good Men Project’s Men’s Mental Health Social Interest Group’s convocast, moderated by Emily LaDouceur, we recently discussed what the pressure of living up to toxic masculinity roles and the #METOO movement was having on men,

Definitions of Success

When men, forty-five to sixty-four, decide that they can not live up to the power and money success goals as set by the Patriarchal society, they are prone to suicide – no responsibility, no apology, and no closure. There is another way. Give up societal mandated roles and be comfortable with your own identity. Once you break free, there are many ways to live a successful and productive life.

Personal redefinition

Accountability sets you free. Find your humanity and treat others equally. Stop toxic behaviors and engage in positive behaviors. Take time to heal. And, allow your emotional self to emerge. Humans are NOT defined by gender. We are defined by who we are and how we interact with others.

Personal Choice

Many men ask to feel, are told to feel, but not told how. Sometimes it’s nothing more than behaving as if you do and eventually the feelings emerge. It all comes down to doing an emotional and mental reset. In the end, if a man wants to change, he must CHOOSE to do so.

We want to hear your point of view. Have you looked at your life and decided you need a change? Have you made a change? Have you broken free of the stereotypical definition of masculinity? Have you gone beyond power and money and found success in other areas?

Your story is important. How have you changed your life? What steps did you take to free yourself of other’s expectations? How hard was it? What have you learned? How has it changed your relationships?

When you’re ready to submit, click the red box, below.
