Our Art Director’s Tips for Easy Holiday Table Styling

We love everything about the holiday season: the decor, the entertaining, the cooking and baking, and the presents. We’ve partnered with Bloomingdale’s to bring you tips for how to holiday in style, from home decorating pointers to stylish tricks to the tools you need to pull off the holidays with ease.

The key to a gorgeous, relaxed, and welcoming holiday table is to utilize celebratory decor that is naturally beautiful and unique. Handmade dinnerware and serveware, gleaming handblown glassware, and soft rumpled linens feel luxurious but not stuffy. A tumble of seasonal fruit, winding foliage, and a touch of something sparkly adds warmth and interest.

Here’s what I look for when selecting pieces for a holiday table:

Table Decor

I find the most beautiful way to decorate for the holidays is to bring nature indoors with seasonal fruits, vegetables, and foliage. Here I tumbled tiny apples, pears, winding bittersweet, and gilded walnuts for a touch of glamour.

When all the right pieces come together, they make a glamorous, cozy, nature-loving table.

Handmade Dinnerware

Like Food52 Dinnerware by Jono Pandolfi

I like this dinnerware because it’s handmade, so it feels special enough for a holiday table. At the same time, the plates and bowls have a substantial feel, so they don’t seem too precious for your guests to be able to relax at the table.

Handmade yet refined, sturdy yet elegant—perfectly balanced for whatever your tablescape aesthetic.

Functional Centerpiece Platters

Like this Handmade Round Platter with Lace Detail

I love this platter because of the refined shape and beautiful detailing on the inside. The platter’s lace motif is a lovely canvas for a simple but elegant centerpiece. As serveware, this platter’s “blate” shape (bowl-plus-plate) makes for the perfect passing piece, managing to contain even the tumbliest salad.

I like to mix and match flatware designs so that each place setting feels unique. Add in a couple of vintage pieces with your swanky set for delightful variation.
