The newest version of ‘The Mummy’ surprised me in many ways

Like many movie fans, I know a bit about the story of The Mummy. I really liked the first two Mummy films with Brendan Frasier. They added more depth to this story that any version before it. So when I heard there was a new reboot in the works, I feared it would be awful. Yet I decided to check it out anyway. It was nothing like I expected it to be. Here is what I thought of the newest version of this story.

You can read the plot for The Mummy here:

Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) is a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. When Nick and his partner come under attack in the Middle East, the ensuing battle accidentally unearths Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), a betrayed Egyptian princess who was entombed under the desert for thousands of years. With her powers constantly evolving, Morton must now stop the resurrected monster as she embarks on a furious rampage through the streets of London.

This was a good reboot of The Mummy. It told an entirely new story, one that was darker than any other version. There was plenty of action, suspense and some shocking surprises. There were a few throwbacks to the last version of this story, which I thought was pretty cool. The cast does a pretty good job in this film, and the monster is quite terrifying. It could have been better, but it was definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. The Mummy gets 6/10. It really was not a bad reboot. The plot is a little weak sometimes, but overall was good. There was also an ending I did not see coming. This won’t be a film for everyone, but horror fans will like it.
