A MAP created by Google shows the words each US state Googles the most for their spelling.
Some of the results are incredibly surprising; Wisconsin’s top-searched is “Wisconsin”, Idaho’s is “Sense”, and “Beautiful” seems to be a recurrent spelling problem in California, Minnesota, and New York.
Other results are more understandable; “Pneumonia”, “Hallelujah”, and “Sauerkraut” present obvious difficulties.

We may be tempted to shake our heads at these results, but let’s remember that those who Googled these words were actively trying to not make a mistake. As Roman philosopher and tragedian Seneca said: “If you don’t know, ask. You will be a fool for the moment, but a wise man for the rest of your life.”
Note: The word “Misspelled” was Googled for the writing of this article.
